Powerful and passionate: this is the Burnett woman as imagined for Fall 2019. Taking inspiration from 1980’s film heroines such as Sigourney Weaver in Half Moon Street, and Michelle Pfeiffer in Scarface, the collection explores the wardrobe as a means of expression. Daytime looks evoke the mantras of power dressing and the working woman, as seen in sharp tailoring and suiting- while evening takes a decidedly alluring slant- where women use refined glamour to convey strength.
The palate is bold, highlighting shades of ivory, black, indigo, bordeaux, and emerald. Fabrications range from leather and wool for suiting, to silk crepe, embellished tulle and pleated lame and chiffon for evening.

About the co-founders:
Emily Burnett (Co-CEO and Creative Director) co-founded the eponymous luxury line after having gained international renown and industry recognition during her 10-year tenure at luxury design house, Dennis Basso. As Creative Director, Burnett’s signature aesthetic helped the house cement its reputation for feminine sensibility and detailed craftsmanship across eveningwear, evening-inspired sportswear, and bridal. In June 2018, Burnett exited Basso to launch Burnett New York with Co-Founder and Co-CEO Sterling McDavid.
Sterling McDavid (Co-CEO and President) is responsible for the sales, marketing, and finance aspects of Burnett New York. She is also the Founder and CEO of the Starling Project, a social impact luxury home fragrance line. McDavid is passionate about women’s and children’s rights – she serves as a member of the UNICEF New York Board of Directors, and is also a Chair of UNICEF Next Generation in New York.
The goal of both founders is to not just create beautiful clothes, but to reframe the fashion space by supporting artistry, fostering community, and paying it forward in everything they do.
